Attack Girls’ Swim Team vs. the Undead – Review January 19, 2010

While the movie doesn’t live up to the promise of the title, it’s certainly good for a romp. Attack Girls’ Swim Team vs. the Undead stars Handa Sasa as a comely schoolgirl with a shadowy past, recently transferred into a new school. She is convinced by her friend to join the swim team, but their trophy dreams are rudely interrupted by a virus that is spreading in the school and a series of mysterious events. The film is pretty bad, but I have to admit I couldn’t help snickering and giggling while I was watching it. The climax of the movie is just jaw-dropping. I mean, really, off-the-scale craziness.

The school has changed for the worst as everyone who has received the flu shot are now turning to zombies. In one class, a teacher uses his rulers as a weapon, chopping students up, while other students start eating each other. The film would definitely appeal to the Japanophiles or the curious horror fan but for the hardcore horror fans, you’re not going to exactly get those visually sickening scenes. Even I have my limits to horror films but this film, was difficult to get scared because in one scene, you’ll see the main talent nude and then it cuts to a horror scene. I can see Japanese adult video fans wondering how far both Japanese porn stars Sasa Handa and Yuria Hidaka will go in this film and although this is an unrated film, let’s just say that Sasa Handa is probably not acting during those sexual scenes.

The exploitation factor is through the roof in this one, and it there is no doubt that those who made this are the same crowd who have fueled the most bizarre videos that have come out of Japan. The film does find some originality when it comes to sheer campiness. Although the tone of the movie is never quite cohesive, the gore is cool, the lesbian sex scenes are cool, and the flashback rape scenes are strangely hilarious. To be fair, the arterial spray is vigorous and enjoyable, but when the best things your movie has going for it are bared bosoms and squirting blood, a fundamental problem exists.

Make sure you stay past the 20 second mark on the youtube clip as that is where the scene starts and things get out of control. This film has lot’s of boobs, plenty of lesbian sex, some regular sex, shower scenes, all kinds of gore, and a plot that left me baffled. It’s not Tokyo Gore Police, but it deserves a solid, guilty pleasure score. Attack Girls’ Swim Team vs. the Undead makes it pretty clear that the rest of the girls are meaningless by either having them all together in one shot or just never focusing on one person too long.  Aside from some key characters, it wouldn’t surprise me if all the girls on the swim team were basically all the girls in the movie. A lot of the music is some generic faux metal with generic sounding riffs. To be honest, I don’t recall there being music in the movie other than the action scenes. As much as I can’t recommend watching this movie I have to say that I would recommend it just as much. It’s pure fun, how can you say no to that?

I put this in the same category as TGP, an over the top, nonsense filled roller coaster ride of blood and gore. Cheesy, yes! Fun, hell yes!

Plus it contains the worlds greatest laser blast ever!

I loved it as well and added it to mine collection.

The ending was perfect as far as I am concerned.

The overall plot wasn’t that bad actually and though I want to say it”s the way the movie was presented, I rather loved the way it was presented so all in all, I loved it.
